Healing Seborrheic Dermatitis Naturally

It's been a long time since I posted on this blog about my seborrheic dermatitis. Not much has changed since this last post 3 years ago. The only thing is that I still don't follow a vegan diet, but the majority of my skincare has stayed the same.

I can tell you from experience what helps and doesn't help me. Disclaimer: I am not a licensed or certified professional. Please talk to your doctor about making changes to your diet. Being that it been nearly 3 years. I figured I jump in and tell you how and why I switched things up with my diet and skin care. My skin care ingredients haven't changed, just the brand or the type I use. What I hope to do in the future and why.

Diet

I did manage to go vegan and even raw vegan for short periods of time throughout the last 3 years. I even dabbled a little bit with paleo. But the main thing I noticed a huge difference in not just my health, skin, but also my overall mental health and focus. When I avoid dairy and eggs, I noticed that I have less digestive issues, sinus issues, fatigue, irritability, and seborrheic dermatitis flare-ups. Some people may be shocked about the eggs post is that I mentioned in this post that it would be great for your diet. This may be true for you, but for my body and chemical makeup. Eggs only do more harm than good. It's hard to keep up with this lifestyle, I'm not going to lie.

It can be cost-effective if you let it, but if your focus is to stick with raw vegan then you could basically be spending the same amount you would possibly more. It just depends on the type of meals you want and how complex you are willing to go to make them. For me, I found a juicer, blender, dehydrator, and small food processor was sufficient enough. You can easily find these for free or dirt cheap at yard sales, thrift stores, and flea markets.

When I am following a vegan diet, my meals are basic and simple. I try not to overthink about staying full since I am vegan I can stick to mostly raw or easy meals. Dinner is the only time I really stress about meals since I do I have 5 little ones needing their nutrition to grow. However, I have found amazing recipes through research and trial and error that works for my family.

Seborrheic Dermatitis is an issue that deprives from within. It's a yeast overload within your body and I believe eliminating dairy and eggs helps starve off that fungi. Detoxing and fasting is always another way to remove candida overgrowth. The Candida Diet seems to be a great way to jump-start your health then transition into raw vegan especially if you are the type who doesn't exercise often, eats a lot of junk food and processed foods. Going straight into a Raw Vegan diet or any diet can alternate your body and cause your body do things you didn't expect it to do. Caffeine withdraws can seriously put a damper on my mood. It would have to be a gradual ween in order for me to eliminate caffeine.

What I Would Eat:
Breakfast: Chia Pudding with fruits and extra powders like chlorophyll, collagen, protein, or a super green. Sometimes I will throw in granola and nuts on top for some crunch.
Lunch: Green Juice Smoothie | Greens, Carrots, Beets, and Apple Juiced in a blender with bananas, protein powder, super greens powder, or another powder, ice, and coconut milk. Arugula Salad with peaches, cashews, bean sprouts, strawberries, chickpeas, shrimp or imitation crab, and raspberry vinaigrette.
Dinner: Vegan Chili

Eating Vegan or Raw Vegan isn't hard, it's just changing your mindset and making sure you are always stocked with foods to be consistent. My problem is that in the last 3 years, we have moved around a lot. Stress has caused me to not stay focus on this diet plan. We do plan on living off the grid soon traveling the country in an RV. This will allow me to have the freedom to focus on myself, my health, and my peace. Stress is a huge factor is seborrheic dermatitis flare-ups. Once I can eliminate the daily stress of work, school, business and balancing it all. The only thing I will be worrying about is where are we going to see next.

Skin Care

As I mentioned before, my skincare routine hasn't really changed much. I still pretty much use the same ingredients and type of products for my routine. Since I found this to be the best effective way to control and maintain Seborrheic Dermatitis. I strongly don't believe its the way to get rid of it. If you truly want to heal your skin, you will have to follow a strict diet to help clear up your skin.

I have traded in my head and shoulders shampoo to use DermaDoctor Calm Cool & Corrected Tranquility Cleanser with 2% Pyrithione Zinc. I'm not going to lie. This is $32 and the only thing you are really paying for is the damn brand, packaging, and main ingredient. However, this offers 2% Pyrithione zinc whereas, Head and Shoulders only offers 1%. Not to mention DermaDoctor actually made a facial cleanser geared to Seborrheic Dermatitis. You know how hard that is to find without going through a fishy looking website?

This line also has a cream, but I wanted to see how the cleanser works before I dish out $85 for a 1.7oz jar that has ingredients I can probably get myself and it be cheaper to whip up on my own. Not saying you shouldn't buy it, but I'm just saying. It's not hard to find shea butter, chamomile, aloe vera, vitamin e, hyrdrolic acid, and white tea extract at wholesale price and make a vegan version at home which will give you nearly 12+ months of supply.

This cleanser doesn't foam up like a regular cleanser, its more on the milky side which is strange for me, but it does give me the same effects and feeling I get when I use head and shoulders. If you have a severe flare-up, I would recommend using this morning and not and not what's recommended on the label. I thought since it has more Pyrithione zinc that I could scale back on the use of it. Nope, you still should use it as a regular cleanser.

This scrub is eh. I wanted to reminisce my high school days and go back to the basics. Instead of using St. Ive's Apricot Scrub that I have faithfully gone back. I decided to go with Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub. Not impressed like I was back then which is probably why I stopped using their brands. I like a little friction and dry scrub and this is more creamy and gentle. Will work for you if you have very sensitive skin and need to be gentle, but also remove acne. This does help with the acne part, but as for exfoliating dead skin cells. I didn't get that feeling from this.

I still use The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil line, it's has been proven to help my acne and it has antifungal and antibacterial properties so it helps with seborrheic dermatitis. I use this day and night, I have tried to find other toners that are good for hydrating, but my acne would flare up around my chin. I rather stick to what works and this works. I use the oil with the moisturizer or for spot treatments.

You may notice that I'm not using Mario Badescu Rose Water Spray and that's because I let the lady at Ulta talk me into purchasing the Pur Miracle Hydrating Spray. Huge Mistake! It's hydrating for the moment then it's like most of the moisture evaporated instead of sinking into my skin. I'll be going back to my Mario Badsecu Sprays and I have been wanting to try out the Chamomile and Lavender instead of Rose Water. Chamomile does wonders for my skin and it truly helps with the redness and inflammation.

Aveeno has always been my best friend throughout the years. I have used Aveeno Eczema Therapy Cream which clogs my pores which is another reason why I use tea tree oil to thin it out and add a boost. I mostly use this at night so my skin can soak in all the moisture. During the daytime, I use the Aveeno Ultra Calming SPF 15 Moisturizer.

What's In the Future?

Right now, I want to focus on anti-aging. I currently use RoseHip Oil for scarring and antiaging. I do want to get into retinol and I find that The Ordinary has a lot of products at an affordable price. Retinol helps with cellular renewal which helps with revealing new skin and boosting collagen. I would also like to make my own products. I have a few products in mind that I would like to create and sell for other people to use. The system isn't easy, but its effective.

In about a month, I will be preparing for a candida cleanse then going towards juicing then get back to my vegan/raw vegan diet. I also want to include more greens and fruits. I think juicing and adding powders to smoothies will help with giving me that extra boost I was looking for.

This will allow me to cleanse my liver, kidneys, digestion, and urinary tract. I won't be doing a harsh cleanse which is why I would like to do a Candida cleanse which will do digestion and liver, but since I am juicing or soup avoiding the certain foods that can cause a flare-up. This will allow me to get rid of all the toxins but also be replenished with the nutrients from the juice and soups. I will then follow up with another detox that allows me to have solids and mostly smoothies, but this will be to help with my kidneys and urinary tract. Then I can completely follow a raw vegan diet.

My focus is to restart my systems, but not shock them by eliminating everything that my body is addicted to. I also get nutrients that my body needs in order to be functional. By doing another detox AFTER my cleanse is slowly allowing my body to get familiar with solids and digesting nontoxic foods. This is going to take at least a month for me to do so I don't expect any results immediately or to notice a huge difference. I hope this new diet will help me with bloating, fatigue, acne, and seborrheic dermatitis flare-ups.

At some point in the future, I would like to help other people by providing them the exact products either from another brand or my own, skin care routine, and diet to follow to help them heal seborrheic dermatitis naturally.
